Pond design, construction, and proactive management
We utilize all natural products that maintain
pond and lake ecosystems without the use of chemicals. Chemicals are only
used in extreme circumstances.
The Pond People™ uses the following process to determine
the best solution for a client's existing pond:
- Have the client complete the data gather form in the
‘Contact Us’ section of this website. Click
here to go directly to this
form.
- Review data gather form and contact the client to
schedule a conference to discuss the information.
- Discuss development of five-year pond prescription.
Discuss fee to do water chemistry analysis, hydrology survey, and
quantitative review – the background data necessary for the development
of the prescription. See ‘Why Do We Go To This Extreme?’ below.

Why Do We Go To This Extreme?
The use of our prescription process assures our clients
that the recommended solution matches the real need by dealing with the cause
of the problem, or potential problem. It is the equivalent of having a
doctor complete blood work and review your health history before
recommending a solution to the symptom you are seeing him/her about. Would
you take a pill from a doctor who didn’t take the time to understand your
condition? In short, we want our clients to invest their money wisely into
a solution that will work. With the pond prescription process, we are
confident there is not a pond problem that cannot be fixed!

Why Manage Your Pond?
Planning is an essential part of maintaining the health of your pond. Pond ecosystems are complex associations of microbes, plants and animals. The associated food webs, beginning with plants, to the herbivores, to carnivores and eventually to the decomposers, are linked together. These relationships make up the pond ecosystem. Healthy ecosystems can rebound readily from natural disturbances and human activities. If the ecosystem is unhealthy, once an invasive species is introduced (for example, via birds) into a suitable environment, it often times has the ability to rapidly reproduce and dominate the area. This has a severe negative impact on the delicate balance of that ecosystem. Our specialists can help manage the pond ecosystem, as well as the aesthetic appearance of your pond. With the proper plan, problems can be easily handled and even completely prevented.
Proper planning also yields financial benefits. Recent studies have shown that as a pond’s water quality declines, the related property value decreases. This situation is an example of the relationship between the environment and economics that is often difficult to quantify. Simply stated, people are willing to pay more for homes/property with a pond that has high water quality. This can be a double-edged sword in that excellent water quality of larger ponds increases the demand for real estate development. Unless development around a pond occurs in a responsible manner, the very qualities that make a pond desirable in the first place will be degraded. The message here is that responsible stewardship and conservation practices translate into increased property values for pond owners.
